Bio
Carole Crittenden Reed " Founder of Carole Reed Design Designing homes in the Hamptons that are both comfortable and chic, warm and inviting. After designing for commercial properties for over 10 years I have turned my focus to individuals. Design Philosophy- In her 15 years as a designer and art consultant Reed has discovered that there is no substitute for authenticity. Believing that all objects have their own energies, her combinations of old and new objects partnered with rich textiles and organic materials along with the right levels of lighting and tonality create a sensory feast for the eyes. A cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University, Carole Reed also studied at Decordova Museum School, and Oxford University. Her interests took her to the Dallas Museum of Art, where she specialized in Outsider Art. Reed served as Curator of the House of Blues Outsider Art collection, the largest public collection of American Folk Art in the world. Deeply ingrained in here aesthetic are lessons learned from the House of Blues Founder Isaac Tigrett, including his attention to every lighting detail, his multicultural layered approach to art and artifact collection. Her decade long career as The House of Blues Creative Director brought her great restaurant and nightclub design success in the Las Vegas, Chicago, Los Angeles and New Orleans markets. Reed’s design projects include set design for the second Blues Brothers movie, ESPN X-Games set design, art consulting for Jim Belushi and Dan Ackroyd and the restaurants of Todd English, as well as curating major exhibits of Outsider Art at the World Trade Center Gallery and the Los Angeles Craft Museum. Reed sits on the national Advisory Board of the New Orleans Contemporary Art Museum. Her newest creations are intimate personal spaces, places where money and prestige cannot empower you the way centered thought can, Leveraging the Zen aesthetic in her design, Reed has been noticed by the Discovery Channel, New York Times, New York Post, and other numerous design magazines. Considered a pioneer in this field she has been the keynote speaker at the Hospitality Design Boutique Conference, discussing Meditation Design.
