Description:

Homeowners’ goal: When completing an extensive remodel of the entire home, the homeowners had an expansive covered patio built to accommodate an outdoor family television watching area. The area in mind required comfortable seating that would hold up to year-round outdoor use in this sunny southwestern locale. They also requested some drapery that could easily close off parts of this patio “room” as needed to eliminate glare for the TV and to reduce heat from the late afternoon sun. Problem(s) addressed: Prior to meeting with Interiors by Decorating Den, the homeowner had worked with another decorator who had already installed a banquette with cushions that would share the same area as the proposed seating and drapery. The fabric selected for these cushions was in rust and gold. This pre-existing situation controlled the color palette for the new items to be added. The difficulty was in finding just the right combination of outdoor-suitable fabrics to complement the existing banquette. The previous decorator had also provided some furnishings for this area that disintegrated in less than 18 months due to the intense heat and extreme UV rays this area experiences. The homeowner was very concerned about the longevity of the fabrics and furnishings for any proposed arrangement. Solution provided: The decorator chose teak furniture complemented with woven “faux rattan” accents made of a long lasting polyurethane product formulated especially for outdoor use. Teak has a virtually unlimited outdoor life, even when exposed to the elements in all climates. To the trade suppliers were identified who could provide COM fabrics for all the upholstered pieces in just the right combination of colors and styles.
