Antique Sultanabad Carpet
Product Type: Brand New / Custom-made

- Description
This magnificent antique Sultanabad rug really stands out within its type. In place of the customary palmettes and vines as an allover network or as a central medallion design, this example has a series of see-through medallions that almost look Khotan or Tibetan, and they are arranged as separate forms in an allover floating arrangement like Sarouk carpets, which were produced in the nearby region. But the Sultanabad tradition emerges clearly in the rich coloration of the carpet with terracottas and burnt orange alongside a variegated range of blue shades. The small-scale jewel-like border of cartouches and addorsed scrolls offers a nice contrast to the larger more open forms of the field. Persia, late nineteenth century.
