Antique Bakshaish Runner, Persia, late nineteenth century. An allover lattice of concentric stepped diamonds in black and various earthen tones repeats across the field of this charming antique Bakshaish. The geometric precision of the field is offset by the spontaneous alternations and rhythms in the use of color. The border is minimal, very narrow with a simple reciprocal fret design, simply providing a transition to the broad outer zone of undecorated camel, which provides a lovely, understated frame to the complexity of the field.
