Antique Oushak, Turkey, circa 1900 - An air of expressive excitement informs this magnificent antique Oushak. Bold shield-like medallions emanate outward from the center toward the edges of the field, connected by a monumental lattice of zigazgs. Lovely sprays of palmettes and striking angular tendrils fill the intervening spaces, all against a warm ivory-tan ground. Similar sprays make up the imposing border. Yet the beauty of the carpet resides not only in its grand design, but in the lovely balance of harmonious colors - apricots, rich yellow golds, and wedgewood blues.
