Antique Oushak / Ushak, Turkey, circa 1900 - The rich red field of this sumptuous Oushak is graced by an array of grand palmettes, tendrils, and medallion-like clusters of arabesques. The forms and saffron ground of the border echoes the field elements giving the carpet a unified yet contrasting effect. This is a classic adaptation of Persian design with bold large scale drawing for which Oushaks are rightly prized as superior decorative rugs.
