Antique Tabriz Persian Carpet, late nineteenth century - A rich array of lovely small flowers sprouts from two monumental interlacing figure-eight vines on the terracotta ground of this lavish antique Tabriz. An even finer floral array fills the main border, whose soft blue ground echoes a small selection of blue blossoms in the field carefully punctuating the majority in ivory. This subtle contrast provides a glimpse into the underlying play of balances animating this superb carpet.
