James and Miriam Duncan launched a new collection of furniture and rugs in 2005 inspired by the memories of their formative years in France, Spain and Morocco. The result of this cultural mixing is a disciplined eclecticism which reinterprets classic forms and creates inspired juxtapositions.
In one part of the collection they collaborate with some of Paris’ top ateliers to give classic French 18th century design a modern twist. In another they reinterpret the art deco works of designers such as Ruhlmann and Frank. In yet another they re-imagine the tribal influences that inspired Picasso and the modernists in early 20th century Paris.
Inspired by the classic influences of modernist art, abstraction and primitivism, the rug collections serve as a perfect foil for the furniture.
James and Miriam have also begun collaborations with a number of notable American designers. In partnership with Cynthia Thomas they have launched a new line of furniture and rugs under the name of James and Cynthia Palm Beach.
They also have rug collections with Tucker Robbins, and Sara Baldwin of New Ravenna.
