Created in 1993 by James Kwan and Stephen Mondor, partners in the design firm of Mond(or)Kwan, the M/K Design Collection marks the team's first essay into the home furnishing market. Mond(or)Kwan set out to create handmade objects of high craft and beauty that cen be incorporated into both commercial and residential interiors. The result is the M/K Design Collection of hand blown glass drapery finials. Evocative of Murano glass, the collection incorporates techniques of Venetian glass making such as Fazzoletti (clear), latticina (white strings), and sommerso (saturated color). The finials are complimented by, and set off with, detailed metal collars in hand finishes of natural and rusted steel, copper and gold leaf, and verdigris. The finials were awarded for design excellence in May of 1993.
